Inspired by Knole project

The Knole Project team 2018-2019

Knole has been home to the Sackville-West family for more than 400 years. Since 1946, the National Trust has looked after the property within a 1000-acre deer park. The Knole Collection, with its internationally important survivals of Royal Stuart furniture, has been the focus of a lengthy conservation project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, from 2013 to 2019. With conservation excellence at its heart, the Inspired by Knole Project has been served by scores of professionals: conservators, curators, archaeologists, contractors and specialists from all over the country.

This Knolestories website offers excerpts from oral history interviews with these professionals: people who are now intrinsically connected to Knole through having worked on its exteriors and interiors and conserved its paintings, textiles, upholstery, picture frames and wall paintings for more than 5 years, the longest such project within the Trust.

Have a listen to Hannah Kay,  Frances Parton and Jan Cutajar among many others.
